### The Gist

Sonic Fire Tech just raised $15M to fight fires using nothing but sound waves. They're targeting everything from restaurant kitchens to apartment buildings to stop fires before they scale.

### Why It Matters

For builders, this is a lesson in how hardware creates defensibility. For investors, it's a test of whether specialized deep tech can actually navigate the slow, painful sales cycles of physical real estate.

### Market Impact

This shifts the fire safety market from reactive water-based systems to active acoustic suppression, potentially threatening incumbents like Honeywell if they can't adapt to sensor-driven hardware.

- Building edge AI models that allow sensors to distinguish between kitchen sizzles and actual fire threats
- Creating API-first safety platforms that integrate acoustic sensors into existing smart building operating systems
- Deploying hardware-as-a-service models for high-risk commercial kitchens to lower upfront costs- High integration friction with property managers who are resistant to replacing legacy sprinkler systems
- The high capital expenditure required to manufacture and distribute physical hardware at scale### ELI5

Imagine using a really loud, specific noise to blow out a candle, but on a massive scale. Instead of using water, it uses sound waves to put out fires.
